Asa prayed 1 to the Lord his God: “O Lord, there is no one but you who can help the weak when they are vastly outnumbered. 2 Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you and have marched on your behalf against this huge army. 3 O Lord our God, don’t let men prevail against you!” 4
“Go, seek an oracle from 1 the Lord for me and those who remain in Israel and Judah. Find out about 2 the words of this scroll that has been discovered. For the Lord’s fury has been ignited against us, 3 because our ancestors 4 have not obeyed the word of the Lord by doing all that this scroll instructs!” 5
I sent all my servants the prophets to warn you over and over again. They said, “Every one of you, stop doing the evil things you have been doing and do what is right. 1 Do not pay allegiance to other gods 2 and worship them. Then you can continue to live in this land that I gave to you and your ancestors.” But you did not pay any attention or listen to me.
Then he said to me, “The north chambers and the south chambers which face the courtyard are holy chambers where the priests 1 who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will place the most holy offerings – the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering, because the place is holy.
He said to me: “Son of man, this is the place of my throne 1 and the place for the soles of my feet, 2 where I will live among the people of Israel forever. The house of Israel will no longer profane my holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their spiritual prostitution or by the pillars of their kings set up when they die. 3
Then 1 I saw thrones and seated on them were those who had been given authority to judge. 2 I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. These 3 had not worshiped the beast or his image and had refused to receive his mark on their forehead or hand. They 4 came to life 5 and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
