Judges 2:16

2:16 The Lord raised up leaders 1  who delivered them from these robbers. 2

Judges 4:14

4:14 Deborah said to Barak, “Spring into action, 3  for this is the day the Lord is handing Sisera over to you! 4  Has the Lord not taken the lead?” 5  Barak quickly went down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him.

Judges 13:11

13:11 So Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he met 6  the man, he said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” 7  He said, “Yes.” 8

1 tn Or more traditionally, “judges” (also in vv. 17, 18 [3x], 19). Since these figures carried out more than a judicial function, also serving as rulers and (in several instances) as military commanders, the translation uses the term “leaders.”

2 tn Heb “and they delivered them from the hand of the ones robbing them.”

3 tn Heb “Arise!”

4 tn The verb form (a Hebrew perfect, indicating completed action from the standpoint of the speaker) emphasizes the certainty of the event. Though it had not yet taken place, the Lord speaks of it as a “done deal.”

5 tn Heb “Has the Lord not gone out before you?”

6 tn Heb “came to.”

7 tn Heb “the woman.”

8 tn Heb “I [am].”
