Isaiah 26:21

26:21 For look, the Lord is coming out of the place where he lives, 1

to punish the sin of those who live on the earth.

The earth will display the blood shed on it;

it will no longer cover up its slain. 2

Isaiah 60:2

60:2 For, look, darkness covers the earth

and deep darkness covers 3  the nations,

but the Lord shines on you;

his splendor 4  appears over you.

Isaiah 65:17

65:17 For look, I am ready to create

new heavens and a new earth! 5

The former ones 6  will not be remembered;

no one will think about them anymore. 7

1 tn Heb “out of his place” (so KJV, ASV).

2 sn This implies that rampant bloodshed is one of the reasons for divine judgment. See the note at 24:5.

3 tn The verb “covers” is understood by ellipsis (note the preceding line).

4 tn Or “glory” (so most English versions); TEV “the brightness of his presence.”

5 sn This hyperbolic statement likens the coming transformation of Jerusalem (see vv. 18-19) to a new creation of the cosmos.

6 tn Or perhaps, “the former things” (so ASV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); TEV “The events of the past.”

7 tn Heb “and they will not come up on the mind.”
